Touch

In this series, carried out over two years as a Art student in High School, Sarah explored the notion of Touch. Sarah spent time with special needs children and blind adults to attempt to understand how their touch expressed itself in their portraiture. She also spent hours doing blind drawings of her face, in various large sizes to distance herself from the memory or constraints of visual perceptions. Sarah then used one of these portrait as the foundation for a series in various mediums and sizes. The series of self portraits challenged representation of identity. Included was a metallic statue, flower bud collages, black and white etchings, or a large scale mix media textile piece.
